Electronic Detectors

Plans and concept (C) copyright 2002, Patrice Plouffe, ASEPI

Here is how to build your own electronic UFO detector. This device uses a permanent magnet which behaves like a compass, whose plastic stem acts like the needle. For any adjustments, it is sufficient to turn the base of your detector so that the plastic stem is right in front of the infrared sensor at a few millimeters away. On the computer, the graph should indicate 100 more or less. To increase the value by default, turn the detector so that the needle is further away from the sensor. To decrease the value, bring closer the needle. The needle will stabilize with the alignment of the terrestrial magnetic field. Your station will monitor and record all magnetic disturbances near you.

The electronic schematic of this circuit can surprise you by its simplicity. But rest assured, it does exactly what we want it to do. When the stem which acts like the needle of the compass moves, either closer or away from the sensor, it transmits a voltage variation to the computer. The voltage variation, which is measured by the computer, will determine if we are in the presence an alarm. The level of the alarm is adjustable in the detection software..

Lastly, here's how to connect everything to a computer PC via the DB-15 joystick port. Verify carefully your connections and remember to turn your computer OFF anytime you connect or disconnect anything. If you build this assembly, you do it at your own risk, and we cannot be held responsible for the damage which could occur to your sound card or to any others pieces of computer equipment Thank-you!
